Friday Bridge Saint Mark church Cambridgeshire
The Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire, the churchyard.
Well, I'm leaving and survived the short trip. As churches go this is one slightly odd one, it has a cheap feeling and a bit thrown together. It has its charm with it's on he lob style and small but tree-filled grounds.
Leaning churches in the Fens, Church of St Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
As you can see the weight of the tower and spire has pulled the whole building downwards. with the lack of money, I guess this church is doomed and may be sold off for development.

With little room to move around the churchyard, you have to pick out what I call snippet shots., it's great fun wandering around the churchyard looking for those snippets.
Fenland churches, The Parish Church of St Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
That sinking feeling spring to mind here, when I look at this church, they should rename it the Titanic of the Fen, with our weather getting hotter this effects the Fens soil which shrinks when dry, it cracks, when it rains it causes some swelling but not in all parts, if you own a car to, take a drive in the Fens, you soon find out, would say it's a roller coaster drive and dam dangerous too.
Nice gabled south porch made of brick and stone with a 2 centred outer arch, it's stated this church is open on Thursdays but what they are really saying is, best of luck in getting inside! some of the churches in the Fens are the worse to get in, just 3 were open and the rest was loads of phone calls. if you want to pray you firstly need to pray and hope to contact the key holders. Terrible if you think the churches have an open door policy.
South porch and churchyard, St Marks church Friday Bridge in the Cambridgeshire Fens.
The church may look if it's on its last legs, but the small grounds are rather nice, well kept in most parts and here you get a free blue football if you wish to play a quick game lol.

Not much room to work here so will be expecting some converging verticals issues from the lens. Even with the 10mm wide angle lens, it's still pushing the lens to the limits. The small building that pokes out of the chancel maybe the chapel or a small south transept.
Ivy growing up church wall of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Loved the ivy here, so rustic so film like.
East window, 2 pointed arch, The Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Same style window to west window but with 3 cusped lights with a foiled head in two-centred arch.
Chapel or small transept architecture of Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Cute Chapel or small transept south side of the building.
Square headed south porch window, Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Even the porch is sinking as you can see here.
Nave two pointed arch windows of The Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Each 2 pointed arch window along the north and south walls are separated by buttresses, the window is 2 light trefoils, sort of similar to the planted tracery in look.
Old gravestone in churchyard of The Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Lovely old headstone within the north side of the churchyard.
Gabled south porch to The Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
When walking around this side of the church you get a sense of oh dear, which sadly is a norm around the Fens with many of the churches not in the best of the condition. sign of the times in the East of England.
Lancet window, Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire.
Nice lancet window with cusped shaped top.
The leaning tower of Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire church of St Marks.
Well you have Leaning Tower of Pisa Italy and you have the leaning tower of St Mark's Friday Bridge in the Cambridgeshire Fens, now oddly I never see loads of people taking tours around this world-famous church tower haha, anyway it's a broach spire with gabled spire lights on each side.
The leaning church in the Cambridgeshire Fens, the Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge.
A common sight in the Cambridgeshire Fens, buildings that are sunk into the ground, poor quality foundations often causes this. west tower doorway.
West porch and doorway of The Parish Church of Saint Mark Friday Bridge Cambridgeshire
Gabled doorway. If this church if ever used and stated elsewhere it's always locked I just wonder if there's a notice to tell people to shout women and children first lol, talk about a sinking ship, this church will be closer to the devil soon.
Fine 2 centred arched window with West window four cusped lights and trefoils. No, it's not me being drunk but showing how badly the church has sunk in the ground, I just wonder how long it will stand for. The bricks seem to stand out from the rest of the buildings in the village. very basic looking but the window is rather nice looking.
Being just 5 miles from home I thought I better go and see this church. As with a few of the Fenland villages it's like venturing into the unknown, wondering if I make it out alive, I'm not being funny but you need to carry a stun gun or something else, these are troubled villages, if your face doesn't fit you are driven out, I've seen this many times before. The church sits back from the road and the first thing you may see is the church noticeboard, it has a strange drawing of the church that's the drawing is on the lob, is this a drunken artist or something else! So before we begin, my canon 7 d mk2 has a built-in electronic level so no excuses for wonky horizons and bent churches, so the images you see here are level. When looking at the church, you think mm and wow! it has sunk into the Fenland mud, poor foundations in the Fens often causes this and can be seen in many of my Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire churches and buildings. Here we see the west end window with a rather nice vintage lamp. as you can see the church is lobbing over.
