Now most people wont photography a damaged butterfly as it's not cute but this was once and still is a stunning creature. A common species in most of Europe, North Africa, northern Asia and North America, and a pest in farmlands of New Zealand and Australia. Found in gardens, meadows and agricultural land during most of the summer, with usually two generations in northern and up to four in southern Europe. Sometimes migrants in large numbers. Cabbage (Brassica) is a common foodplant, but wild Crucifers like Hedge Mustard (Sisiymbrium Officinale) are also eaten. The caterpillar is green lined with yellow and often chooses sheltered places on fences in which to change into a chrysalis. The chrysalis usually matches the colour of its surrounding. The final generation of the year overwinters in this stage.
