West window of St Maragret church Kings Lynn west Norfolk
I think this is the first time I have seen a crenellated parapet (= battlement) on the west front of a church.
and I think this crenellated parapet is the most decorated parapet among the churches on your website. a lot of small holes of a human-like figure are carved out there in a band. maybe they are trefoil blind arcade. blind arcade? then again Romanesque origin?
and a lot of niches (with saints statue sitting or standing in it) on the west facade is unusual among the churches you have photographed, I think. Crowland I remember had a lot of such things on a side. I really like such architecture, probably from the Romanesque period, or at least from the very early stage of the Gothic era. by Junya.
